Goat Willow<\/p>\n

We thought the Willow had died,<\/p>\n
but the bees around her catkins –<\/p>\n
fluffily emerging in early Spring –<\/p>\n
happily denied our errant view.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She\u2019s a Goat or Pussy Willow,<\/p>\n
dug from a field in Wales.<\/p>\n
A fragrant companion on the journey back,<\/p>\n
replanted behind our London home.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Willow appears to be female:<\/p>\n
Ruth-like amongst alien trees,<\/p>\n
gleaning what light can be had,<\/p>\n
alone with the dews of Hiraeth.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She is, however, a hardy tree.<\/p>\n
Where Sycamores steal the sun<\/p>\n
a branch is withered dry.<\/p>\n
But on her other side, stems reach<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
high and asymmetrically.<\/p>\n
Willows bend but do not break,<\/p>\n
they say, at least not easily.<\/p>\n
Resilience in metaphor.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Perhaps she\u2019s grasped the<\/p>\n
Elder\u2019s roots or sends messages<\/p>\n
via bees in pollen code to other<\/p>\n
lonely trees in nearby Kew.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
