First day of Wimbledon 1981 – the year of John McEnroe – ailing superstar, Richard Burton, (then 56) arrives in his Rolls Royce to stay with his sister Cis at her home in North London to recuperate from his life-saving spinal operation, and meets his 19 year old grand-nephew Guy who is engrossed in the tennis. Over the next five weeks, they will forge an unlikely friendship. Richard has inexplicably purchased a Red Mini Cooper S but which he is too weak to drive, so Guy takes the wheel. As Richard needs to get the car over to his home near Geneva he asks Guy to drive it with himself as passenger… To add a little spice to the mix, he invites Helen Of Swansea, the girl to whom Guy has hopelessly lost his heart, so Richard can play Cupid… The 12 day excursion from London to Geneva via Paris becomes the defining event of young Guy’s life as the three of them drive off into the sunset.
